IN THE SUPREME COURT OF THE STATE OF ALASKA

                         ORDER NO. 1254

                                   Changing the number of district
                                   court judges in the Third
                                   Judicial District pursuant to
                                   Administrative Rule 19(a).

IT IS ORDERED:


     For a six-month period beginning September 1, 1996 and ending
February 28, 1997, the number of district court judges in the Third
Judicial District is increased from twelve to fourteen.  This
change is made pursuant to Administrative Rule 19(a), which
provides that the number of district judges may be changed by the
supreme court from time to time as circumstances require.
